SUMMARY:20th Annual World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend
DESCRIPTION:World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend\nWhere people of all age
s come together to play…\n\nJoin us for our 20th Annual event!\n\nTh
e World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend is an opportunity to enjoy, discov
er, and participate in the growing sport of disc golf while helping to
raise money for local and national non-profits. We want to reach out
to people who have only heard about disc golf and are curious.\n\n\nJo
hn and Dee Houck would like to invite you to our 20th Annual World's B
iggest!\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event was created in Austin, Texas in 1991 by
John Houck, a two-time World Champion in Freestyle Frisbee and the spo
rt's #1 course designer (click here to view John's course design site)
. The WBDGW has grown to be an international event, with 18,000 player
s in 200 cities in nine countries at its peak. The very first event wa
s held at Zilker Park – the first course Houck designed.\n\nHouck is
the president of the Disc Golf Foundation, lead course designer for t
he International Disc Golf Center, a member of the Disc Golf Hall of F
ame, former commissioner of the Professional Disc Golf Association, an
d owner of Millennium Golf Discs. He is considered to be the sport's l
eading course designer, with close to 100 courses on his resume, inclu
ding an unprecedented twelve courses for world and national competitio
n.\n\nDisc golf has been around almost as long as flying discs themsel
ves. Back in the 1950's players would use trees, lampposts, and even g
arbage cans as \"holes\" for a game of golf. Things have changed a lot
over the years, with the introduction of the chain basket in 1974 and
the invention of patented discs made just for disc golf in 1983. Toda
y there are more than 3,000 courses around the world, including over 1
80 in Texas. The Professional Disc Golf Association had 16,000 registe
red members in 2006. In 2008, almost 40,000 players had registered wit
h the PDGA. Based on these numbers, it is safe to say that the love of
disc sports is catching on and we suspect millions of people around t
he world have played disc golf.\n\nPart of the amazing growth of disc
golf stems from the annual World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend. The even
t grew from 368 people in Zilker Park to 18,000 players around the glo
be in the mid- '90's. Over the last 20 years, the WBDGW has introduced
over a 100,000 players to the sport and helped install two dozen new
courses. The event is disc golf's version of a \"fun run,\" with an em
phasis on participation rather than competition.\n\nThis year we invit
e everyone across the world to register their disc golf event for free
and become part of our worldwide celebration. We want the spirit of d
isc golf to be celebrated around the world and whether you are hosting
a tournament or a special WBDGW event, please make sure you register
with us, so that we can recognize your effort as part of this celebrat
ion. In the last 20 years, disc golf has grown significantly and we kn
ow this 20th year event will be the biggest ever. Registering your eve
nt will help us track the popularity of disc golf and there is no char
ge for registering and no fee to be included as a host. We just want t
o make this day about the \"love of it.\"\n\nDisc golf will be celebra
ted around the world May 1st & 2nd, 2010. JOIN IN!!!\n\nFor more infor
