are first runs better

I have always heard that first run discs fly better. I had a first run Flash which flew twice as good as my non-first run Flash, but why is this? Is this just a theory because they are collectable discs as well, or are they better discs, and why?

I think its a theory; people buy first runs and throw them, and get used to how that model flies. If they subsequently buy a later run disc, it may fly slightly differently so they deem the first run disc to be better. This is my theory anyway!

I was going to say kinda what hootie said....it's all mostly in that intial rush of throwing and owning a first run disc...no other is the same. In some cases, however, there probably is a difference, but I would say it's mostly in our heads. Now the obvious big difference would be the the value of a first run as opposed to subsequent runs.

Even in the "First Run" there are some discs that just are not the same.
It is the imperfections of the process in manufacturing.
Sometimes the 'factory seconds' are better.
Also, noticed that on my 'first run' disc I tend to break it in longer,
expecting the 'newer' one to be as 'broken in' on the first throw.

I should add, that in a lot of cases it's the inaccurate labeling of the weight.

Here's something I havn't heard talked about in a long while....When Discraft came out with the Cyclone..the plastic was the best feeling plastic of the day. A few of us noticed a huge difference in flight characteristics based on color. Having identical weights, checked for accuracy in all, the darker Cyclones were very stable....the lighter ones flipped over. Same disc, same weight, same new condition....there was a definite difference based on color.

Always buy 2 just in case. One for Throw and one for Show ( Collecting ) !!!!!
