U figure it out let me know. I ahve the same problem.
If you haven't been there already - check here -- http://www.innovadiscs.com/downloads/ThrowingCharts.pdf.... from that, my advice would be start in a field and take the steps slowly to build the comfort level - and always follow through...

Currently have a friend who's been playing approx 2 months - he's taking a little bit different approach - he mostly drives standing still - working on keeping his arm level for flat throws and only taking the x-step when a group of us are goofing off in a field or on second shots.

As with everything disc golf - find what works for you, no matter which way you choose to learn the shot

There's no stranger feeling that making those steps too fast and feeling like a face plant is coming your way. However, a worse feeling is trying to go from stepping in front to the proper x-step in a tournament. (after playing 7 years using the wrong steps)

Hope this helps some - and keep us updated.
Hey, I'll give one tip Blair. :-) There are many things to be said about backhand, but I'll just say this one. Don't try to wing it too hard till you're comfortable with the steps (x-step) and you have a smooth, even throw with the nose down. Most people (including me) actually have a lot of wobble in their throw that self-corrects quick enough that you don't see it. Concentrate on throwing with a smooth motion, if you are jerky and get that wobble in your throw, you lose a lot of distance.

This was the key for me to throwing with power and still is. I try to throw harder and it doesn't work because my form goes to crap.

It takes time and practice...go to a field and throw a bunch, eventually if you're paying attention, you will know when your throw feels good and powerful, that's a better method than just playing rounds, because all of your focus is on the hole. Go to a field and who cares where they go, concentrate on what you're doing.

Okay, that was like 5 tips, but oh well. :-P
ps...wanna give me some tips on developing a sidearm??
