I was just wondering what disc is the best to learn how to throw first? I'm a LHBH player and have been having trouble getting any distance at all out of my drives. It's not very consistent at all either. Just wondering if there are any suggestions?
My first disc (not that long ago) was a Star TL and it went a good distance with great accuracy. If your arm is not that strong, try a Valkyrie, it has good distance and is very forgiving.
Definately stick to the lighter weights until you get better. You'll know when to step up in weight: when your drives turn really early.
I love the advice earlier..... learn and master the X-step. Smooth=distance.
Fellow lefty here. Try a max weight Avenger SS in the FLX Plastic. They are .5 on the Discraft stability charts. They do not take much on them to go really far. Also they do not require that much snap as well. I think they are a great disc to learn form with. Not to mention the FLX plastic will take a beating forever so you have plenty of time to learn the disc unless you lose it somewhere.
Dont go too heavy dude, try a lightweight Archangel for a driver and maybe a Buzzz for a midrange? Heavy discs will fade more for you while you're still learning, so try either 150g or 160-165g discs, until you get your technique right and you're able to throw your discs relatively flat and straight. Thats the key, flat and straight.
