Ace Pools Drained

We had two ace pools that were getting close to $300 each and they both got hit within the span of four days. One was the Sunday league and it had been building since October. The other was our Spring/Summer league which happens on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday with a combined Ace Pool. The first one that was hit was the Spring/Summer league. Four days later the Sunday league was hit. Predictably we have had a much smaller turnout this week.

 

Maybe I will get an ace tonight. Last year we had a large pool hit and then the very next week I got an ace (on the same day my car got plowed into). The guy earned over $500 the previous week and I walked with just over $20 but hey an ace is an ace. And I just bought beer for my friends anyway. Funny how nobody will get an ace for a long time and then all of a sudden they will come in batches.

for that reason we only pay out %50 of the ace pool.  Had that been the case you would have walked off with a tad more then $20.  also keeps the sharks coming back

Good idea. We just started our ace pool this year. I will keep that in mind if anybody hits it.

I announce what the pool sits at and what the pay is at the beginning or every league so people know up front whats what.   it has worked well for us in the past.

Yeah, I was talking with somebody the other day and they mentioned "What about leaving $20 in the ace pool as seed money?". That would mean that you would never have to start at zero. I don't think that we should pay out only half of the pool however. When it gets big the ace pool definitely becomes a draw. And it is fun to "get some ace runs" when you know that you won't be cashing anyway. Even though tonight's pool will only be $20 or less I will still be aiming for the basket.

Also we have three days for league during the Spring/Summer. So the money builds up quite fast. And I love playing and competing any chance that I get. The people will show up when they want to compete.

After our monthly ace pool reaches $100 we begin keeping half the amount each month to make a little and keep it from growing too fast.

I love when the ace pool gets big and in fact about four years ago I hit it for $300. I wasn't even thinking about how much it was until I hit it and then asked. So far the ace pool has paid for quite a few of my rounds during league. Tonight it grew to $18 and we had twelve people show up to play doubles. So there was quite a few people who showed up to play despite the small pool. However, five people didn't put in the extra dollar tonight. That will change when it grows in a few weeks. With three nights pooled together for the pool it can grow quite quickly.

Some of our areas ace pools last summer grew to be in the $1,500 range.  Folks came from all around to get their chance to grab it.  I was hit by 2 people (if I remember correctly) that particular league pays out %50, it took them a month or so of people hitting aces for it to drop back down and much fun was had by all.

   IMO ace pools are paid out on par with what the leagues in the area pay.. I.E. the standard in our area is %50-%60.  if you area is %100 then so be it..  opions are what they are.

Never had one get that large. It did get up to $564 last summer before it was hit. The guy who hit it split the money 50/50 with his partner who was overjoyed. People start gunning when it gets over about $200.

The club here in St. Louis (500+ members already this year) pays out at 75%.  On a $500 pot, this still leaves $125 for the next one when it gets hit.  We also stack our ACE POOLS.  Once an ACE POOL reaches $500, we cap it and start a new one.  Only one ACE POOL can be drained at a time.  This way you still get the masses showing up to your events just to have a shot at the juicy ACE POOLS.  It is amazing how much it can affect attendance at local events!
