The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

This just hit within the last week.. and today all the big news channels launched a bit of a sharp angle on it.. because it is questionable as a help for stimulus. Personally, I am a veteran of such an expensive course .. Rose Park.. www.Motodom.com/RosePark.html (Though $500K of construction was donated! Yeah!) So I am an advocate.. just sad to see the topic comes off as some sort of whipping joke wrt stimulus package.

Today it hit, ABC, CBS, FOX.. ,no doubt more drama to come...

Disc golf course project causes a stir

that rose park lookz friggins wheat
WOW !!!!!!
Personally I think 800$ thousand is insane for a disc golf course. It just doesn't take that much $ to make one, and how would it stimulate the economy that much? Especially in a place already jam packed w disc golf, bring that $ somewhere that has no courses.
Be nice if they wouldn't call it FRISBEE golf though.

I agree Ben, our $$$$ was that we had 21 acres of totally FLAT land in the heart of the city.. to be dedicated to the flying disc, and city park Director told us, if we could get it donated, then we could construct humongous berms to make a more interesting and challenging landscape. But yeah, I too knew, as soon as I heard about the Austin course proposal, that the thing would not be something of an "ideal" for stimulus.
H.O.E. ! (Heaven On Earth)
Great for disc golfers, but a truly ridiculous example of Pork $'s and could lead to bad publicity. I can't see it creating serious jobs or disc golf reveneu?? And does Austin TX NEED disc golf? I believe they are the #1 city in the world for it already. Rather pay people 800,000$ to go around and work on and clean up and make signs and mow the other courses in existence!!
...pork...imo...

Yeah, in fact I saw a quick response from someone in the know there in Austin, try to get ahead of it by saying, this idea was an old one.. and not really something the city should have submitted for "stimulus". As in .. only 4 people would be employed from it.
$800,000.00 could buy roughly 160 top of the line EDGE packages for schools.
160 schools X est. 60 students (small vs. big schools avg.) = 9600 students(per semester, most of the package can be re-used) exposed to disc golf with all "stimulus" funds essentially benefitting schools and teachers.

Can anyone imagine how many disc golf courses will be built by some of those kids in 10-15 years.
I think a 36 hole disc golf course for $886,000 where people and dogs can walk still sounds like a better way of spending money than a $500,000 park, just for dogs. All that stimulus money is a joke, a lot of it will probably be misused anyway. Here in Michigan we have rest areas and welcome centers off of the highways, some of which have been rebuilt within the last few years at a cost of 2-3 million a piece. Who ever knew a bathroom was so expensive? In my home town the city spent $500,000 on a play structure for the park.

---yep.. and as we like to say.. "...For better health and social responsibility in youth with flying disc sports!"
I agree with Ben, for that much money, put some parks in areas that dont have them everywhere.
