Why doesn't thePDGA allow amateurs to receive cash Payout instead of a voucher or a stack of Plastic? I've heard that the Amateur's are just that and only the "professionals" are allowed to win cash. WHY?

Have you looked up the word "amateur" in the dictionary?

From dictionary.com
am⋅a⋅teur
/ˈæməˌtʃʊər, -tʃər, -tər, ˌæməˈtɜr/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [am-uh-choor, -cher, -ter, am-uh-tur] Show IPA
–noun
1. a person who engages in a study, sport, or other activity for pleasure rather than for financial benefit or professional reasons. Compare professional.
2. an athlete who has never competed for payment or for a monetary prize.

If you pay "amateurs" in cash, they cease to be amateur.

And then there's the whole sandbagging issue...who's going to move up a level if they're making easy money where they are?
What other sports do amateurs receive cash? The fact amateurs receive large merch prizes in our sport is uncommon in most sports where ams primarily just win trophies or certificates.
that is pretty gay, i have plastic coming out of my ass. everytime i place and go up to the merch after a tourny, i just think to myself, "man, i dont need anymore of this shit!"

*please dont respond telling my to send you my extra discs, you wont get any*

but then again i agree with the sandbagger comment, i guess if we want cash we just have to start placing in open, haha good luck.

You got me there. So let me re-phrase the question. Why not still use the points rating system and pay cash to everyone? I am a member of the Professional Disc Golf Association. You pay cash to everyone, only current members can play. More people now want to become members of the PDGA which expands the sport when you have more members and more resources, right?
The reasons are too obvious. If there's any direction to go it would be to reduce the number of pros to those who are truly pros making a living versus increasing the number of players who essentially gamble for money and few feel any of their entry fee should go toward tournament expenses or compensating the TD and staff.
If you are complaining about the plastic. go pro and quit crying about receiving plastic. Let some other people that would appreciate the plastic get it

I never complain about winning but with a player rating of 919 i would be a moron for going pro. I personally asked a simple question alot of people wolud like to know the answer to.
On a related note Mr Cassidy Mayne, I can't find any record of you on the PDGA site.
I have no problem playing Am's for Cash !!!! :)

Yeah when your PDGA # is 2656 I can understand you wanting to play am for cash.
Mike- That would be because I cant afford to join the PDGA at this time. Haven't been playing long and I just started a job yesterday after being out of work since the beginning of December. No money to spend on that.
