The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

There may have been a post on this already but I couldn't find it. I'm new to the sport and very recently discovered that I like throwing thumbers. Tomahawks come out all floppy when I try to throw them, but thumbers look and feel natural for me. I'd like to know if there's any tips on how to maximize the distance on a thumber and any general insight on the best situations in which to use them. It's a fun way to throw and I'd like to hear some input or experiences on how they can be used effectively.

I am getting mine out to around 350-370' and have a few friends that can park 400' holes with them.
what discs and weight do you throw?
My advice is to try to avoid blowing your shoulder out. The rotator cuff seems to be a weak point in the human anatomy.

If you have a strong arm in baseball then you will have a strong arm throwing sidearm as well. Sidearm (forehand means the same thing) , if done with good form, puts very little strain on your arm and body. The sidearm shot, though, takes a lot of practice to master.

When you are throwing overheads, warm up well and throw smooth.

Watch other good overhead throwers. There might be a Discraft Clinic on Youtube.com which shows Pros throwing the shot.
Ville Pipo from Finland only throws Tomahawks but with an Epic. It goes about 450-500 feet with a double helix in the air.He used to be a javelin thrower....
