The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I know that this disc is not for everyone out there. It is the only new disc that I have purchased so far this year. And I am finding it to be quite overstable (yes we are at altitude). That being said, I have handed the disc to a few people and offered to let them just check it out. I always tell them to crush it hard, but people seem to think that it's going to flip right away so they don't listen and the disc ends up going way left.

I have been chucking it hard into the ground (straight down) in an attempt to speed up the break in process. I will get a handle on that disc eventually and I have had some good throws with it.

It just seems that people come with a preconceived notion of the disc so they are afraid to really huck it hard. Just my observations in the span of a couple weeks.

I am at sea level in San Francisco, and have been using the Star Katana as my primary driver for the past two months. I love it. I use a 167g as a no or down wind driver and it isn't over stable for me here. It is really long and slightly understable. I need to hyzer flip it and it straightens out. I do turn it over into a head wind. I have a 172g also but haven't thrown it much. I do love this disc. The Pro version is a lot more under stable. Maybe that'll work for you better out of the box at altitude.
because the NUKE is better
Two diff. discs.
The pro Katanas are flippier than the stars...
I think that some people may have already had an experience with previous Star Katanas that came out earlier. These new ones that have only just come out seem to be more overstable. Not a problem with that. Some adjustment is in order, however. I keep telling people to put some power on it, that it wont flip over and they don't believe me until they throw it and it goes left.

Not worried. I know that it's going to break in and then it will be in the sweet spot. I'll be fine as soon as the steroids kick in.

Just kidding...
They are super flat on top and very overstable.
Not like the first Star Katanas that were flippy.
Still testing the new Star Katana.
Even Ken Climo said it was going to be sweet after it gets broken in, last time he stopped in the office.
Great words from a great man.
Kenny is smoking it this year again..
My rating is up right now too!
Might have to consider moving the Masters age up...again!
Mine is a flat top i like it but is way overstable.
I know a few big arm guys down here in Atlanta who have Star Katana's in the CFR disc. they love them and can flip them like crazy. I just know personally that the disc needs a lot of snap/arm speed to get it to flip. I have thrown a lemon lake star, champ JO, champ second run lady samarui JO, and my pro now. I can flip it and throw all my speed 13's, except the Halo, as they are supposed to fly, but some do not like the Katana. I wish it had a bigger rim, my larger hand and longer fingers make it tough to grip and it literally sometimes just slips out oh my hand and I can throw a Nuke 390 so it is not like I cannot throw it hard enough. I really want to get my hands on a newly released normal stamped star katana, but I will have to wait on that, I also want the Proto Nuke + in Elite Z!!!!
yes, i'm afraid....... Go NUKE!!
I love my Lemon Lake "Pro Worlds 2010" Star Katana. I'm assuming this is one of the earlier "understable" runs but I'm at about 5000 ft and it's relatively stable. I can flip it if I really rip it or throw into a bit of a headwind. I'm sure if I took it to sea level it would flip all the time.
