Atlanta or San Francisco?

My company is sending me down from AK for training and I'll have some extra time.  Which is a better location for DG and bad ass courses?

Always check with the PDGA Directory and each Course Rep. Both have great courses !

Depends how for you are willing to travel? S.F. only has one course in the city limits and that's Golden Gate Park. However, this is one of my favorite course to play. It's VERY well maintaned and is a blast to play. If you can drive 30 to 60 min. out of S.F. Then you have Stafford Lake (Novato), Skyline Wilderness Park (Napa), Aquatic Park (Berkeley). If you can go approx 2 hours out, then you've hit paydirt! De Laveaga (Santa Cruz), Black Mouse (Felton), Pinto Lake (Watsonville) and a few more in the central valley area. Of all the course I've mentioned, there is only one I could take or leave (Berkeley). The rest are courses you will never forget! All are top notch. As for Atlanta, I've never been.

Looks like this changed I'm going to Atlanta.  I was hoping that I could go to Cali as I know there are some pretty rad courses there.

Ya, they are pretty spaced out, but they are some rad courses. Even gets better in the Sierra's, but it sounds like you were looking for something in town. There not giving you a rental car? because Stafford Lake is only about 30 min. away from the city. Still only gives you a couple extra options though. Oh well, sorry for being the bringer of bad news. Hope Atlanta turns out better for you.

I'm getting a rental car, it was just a matter of which location.  It seems that I'm on a budget as our company has over spent on their travel budget this year.  I'm thinking Atlanta will be cheaper than SF, so that is where I'm going now.  I know I can find stuff on the PDGA website, but I wanted opinions of folks who've played and can give me more details.

No worries. Don't feel like you're settling for Atlanta.

First, you MUST play Flyboy Aviation. It's the highest rated course on DGCR, and deservedly so. You must make reservations to play it, so go ahead and start working that out now. It'd be sad if you don't get to this course.

 

If possible, make it out to the Wednesday weekly at Perkerson Park. The city hasn't allowed a permanent course there yet, but the locals set this one up every Wednesday. The land was destined for disc golf. Definitely a must.

 

So play those two and after that there are plenty of quality courses. I can't think of any that you shouldn't go to, so you'll be good just looking at PDGA and DGCR.

 

And don't forget the International Disc Golf Center. It's about 2 and half hours away, but if it's the only chance you get, it's worth it.
