The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I started using a 2 finger power grip about 2 months ago because I was grip locking ALL THE TIME with 4 finger AND 3 finger power grips. Everything started working great. Distance was good for me, accuracy was as good as I can hope for.

I have played a TON of DG lately, for me anyway. All of a sudden I can't control the disc. Releases early, releases late, yada yada. My DISTANCE also took a giant loss. ALL OF A SUDDEN this stuff starts happening. What the CRIPES????

Out today playing a local course. Got SO FRUSTRATED I could not release a drive consistently, let alone make it go anywhere. I took a break and got to thinking. I KNOW my arm speed and and approach have sped up in the past couple months. I know I am going through the Physical motions faster and More Consistently. So, I grab an 11 Speed driver I have NOT been able to throw. 4 FINGER POWER GRIP. I change NOTHING else. Throw my drive and put it 60-65 ft past my distance as of late and right on target. Finished out the last few holes using the 4 finger power grip and everything seemed to come back.

I spent time in the field before I left and threw drivers over and over. All I can think is that when I was using the 4 finger power grip months ago, I did not have the ARM SPEED and body rotation to make the disc snap out right. Now, I have hit that spot in arm speed and body rotation where the 2 finger power grip was just not working.

Any input?

Mitch Mac(2nd in worlds one yr) used what he called the pinch grip(with an Okie accent). I used it on approach shots til the KC open when mid way thru I started throwing everything that way. I still throw that way 21 yrs later. The 1st finger and thumb pinch on or in the rim with the second and 3rd fingers straitened to hold the angle. My last finger is in the rim to coil the disc into the back on my hand. Before the change I used 4 finger power grip. Everyone has different hands and many diff. grips work. Doesn't hurt to try.
I'll have to check that out Larry. Thanks for the tip. My problem trying various modified power grips and such has been I have the SMALLEST hands in the world. Make its impossible for me to make certain grips. But, I will definitely check it out!
