Best Courses In the South? (Cross Country Road Trip)

Ok guys, I've got an internship in Colorado this Spring on an organic farm (super psyched for this). I'm living in Florida and I need to have my car there so part of the whole experience is going to be a 2200 mile road trip from here to there in mid-March/early April.

Since it's winter and I want to avoid icy and snowy roads as much as possible, I'll be hugging the southern coast of the US and then going straight up to CO. Here's what my route is going to look like (somewhat):http://mapq.st/A8OtA0 

Now, which are the must see, do not pass go courses along this route? I don't mind slight detours as long as I'm not going too far out of the way.

Oh yeah, any level of difficulty is nice but I do appreciate a challenge. I am looking for tight fairways, shaped shots, requirement to have multiple shots in the bag, and holes long enough or with enough water to provide a challenge for an advanced player.

If nothing else, you are going to be very close to some great mountain golf when you get here! Sundance and Beaver Meadows are both just up the hill from Owl Canyon. And that is a good thing!

The farm I'll be interning on is called Grant Family Farms. It's the largest organic farm in the US outside of California.

grew up on the family dairy farm in North Pocono, Pennsylvania in the summers.

Maybe you can convince them to put up a temp disc golf course, and have disc golfers donate for REAL food!

Haha I had the option to intern on a farm that had a 9 hole in the ground already but this farm actually pays instead of just room and board, plus it's very well established so they'll have a lot to teach me about organic farming.

And the melon patch looks like hole 9. Get to know some of the locals here in Colorado Springs and you can get to play this course...

It is a private course that is open to locals who call (PPFDC members) ahead. A nice difficult course.

Well, when you get to Colorado you should take Highway 50 west to Pueblo. There is a course there. Then head up I-25 to Colorado Springs where you could play three or four different courses.  Then if you head up I-25 to Denver there are a whole bunch more courses including Jellystone which I have not played yet. If you go through eastern Colorado there is a whole bunch of nothing and you will miss quite a few good courses. Also if you came through Colorado Springs you could probably post something up on our PPFDC forum and get in touch with some of the locals.

there are 3 solid courses here in Las Vegas and 2 eh ones. not to mention the rest of the town is pretty OK :P

Blue Angle Park, Pensacola FL - 3 wooded courses. I think $2 fee not sure anymore, great course's

Chickasabogue Park - Eight Mile 27 hole wooded

Langan Municipal Park - Mobile 18 hole Open with water hazard 

Langan Municipal Museum Course - Mobile 9 hole

McLean Park (Hobbit) - Mobile 18 hole Hard to find but awesome course, long with elevation and water

Medal of Honor Park (Cottage Hill) - Mobile 18 hole Tight wooded

University of South Alabama - Mobile 18 hole Nice mix long,woods, water

Mississippi not many near I-10 

Sheppard State Park, Gautier  18 hole wooded 

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland 18 hole Am course (my home course)

Paul B Johnson State Park, Hattiesburg 18 hole lots of water and little woods

New Orleans,  Lafreniere Park 24 hole Long arm course with water

Baton Rouge, Highland Road 18 hole, elevation, long, water

Baton Rouge area... Greenwood (BREC) 18 hole Shorter but very fun to play just opened

Baton Rouse area (Zachery) Flanacher Road Park 21 hole great mix

Lafayette Acadiana park, 36 holes (2 courses) Very wooded, a few open holes

Lafayette Pa Davis park, 18 hole Long arm course lightly wooded

I have played every course on here except Baker in Mobile, They are all very fun to play. Also depending on what weekend you are going you may find a tournament worth playing as there are many along I-10 here is link to the local tournament series http://www.sndg.org/tourn.php

You should definately make a stop in Mobile. That is a great disc golf destination. Chickasabogue, Langan Municipal, and University of South Alabama are my favs there.
