The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I'm trying to fill a spot in my bag that I desperately need and have narrowed it down to two choices: Champ Gator or ESP/Z Drone. Which one do you like better? I have been throwing my Rocs on a hyzer release for this type of shot for the longest time but I really need a super overstable mid in certain situations. Any thoughts or praise for these discs or suggestions for a better overstable mid?

i throw the latitude 64 pain in gold line for my overstable midrange. it has not failed me yet

I am not a fan of the flex plastic in general but the flx drone is really nice. Very overstable and stops where it hits.

My Gold Line Pain got understable fairly quick, but my Opto Pain is staying nice and Overstable. My FAVORITE Overstable mid by far. I have only tried the Wasp, Hornet, and Drone though... :)

I also have a Lat 64 Pain in Gold Line, it is my go to overstable midrange.  I have nick named it the coin, its gold in color and its nothing but money!  I have thrown the Drone and its similar but i think that the Pain has a better ability fade out a bit more consistently.  Give it a try, as you can see there are quite a few people that throw it, so if you dont end up liking it you know that you will have the ability to sell it on here... just a thought... and a recommendation.

I had thought about picking up a Pain before because I love Lat 64 and I wanted to try out another one of their mid-range offerings but I never did. On flight charts it is no where near as overstable as a Drone or a Gator though, it is closer to a Roc or Buzzz

The flight charts could be deceiving me though as I have never actually thrown one myself

the drone. for those shots where it has to go a distance and it is windy so I have to put some stank on it and it will still get stable when I want it to. also it has flat top so it is easy to grip

I went threw a ton of discs to find a great overstable mid.  FLX Drone was the best that I found.  I really did not like the gator.

I haven't tried the pain, but between these two I'd go with the drone.  I set aside a stash FLX drones for super windy days. It doesn't have quite the same distance, but the Zone is pretty effective on windy days as well.

I like the FLX Drone out off the three.

Pain can't hold up to the wind like the Drone

Gator is nice but I didn't like the feel of it. I just cant grip it like I can a Drone.

Also if you have been using Rocs for the shot, you may have trouble with such and overstable disc. May want to think more along the lines of a Wasp or Hornet.

Tried the gator and didn't like it at all.  Had little glide so ended up flying like a rock (not a roc).  My best friend throws a gold line pain and he likes it.  I settled into throwing a z-line hornet and absolutely love it.  The hornet has the same flight numbers w/ more glide than the drone.  And one more disc to think about is throwing the pro rhyno for your shorter overstable upshots and drives.  Love the rhyno! :)

Sorta of depends on what you want in your Overstable Mid. If you want more glide go with the Pain or Drone. The Gator just doesn't have glide to it. You can mulse it but it's not going to go as far as a Roc, but you won't flip it nor will the wind. IMO they are more overstable than a drone. The Pain will stay overstable for awhile but I found it to be more like a overstable Roc.

I like Whippets or Lat64 Trident for mid shots with heavy wind.
