yep that was it, the second round (IF MEMORY SERVES) produced everyone longest throws it seems.
Just a question on the measuring.

Is it measured as to where the discs lands, or where it slides/bounces/rolls to?

What are the exact rules for a record? it seems to be...
Flat land.
Wind speed/direction doesnt matter.

Im curious as to why the dessert is the best place to throw, higher wind speeds? Better slide (if that counts?)
There are elements of air currents coming off the desert floor called 'thermals.'
As the name implies, there is a heat rush of air coming upward.
Sure if a disc hits it right watch out. And there are some wind factors also.

Hang glider and all kinds of light aircraft use them to their favor out there.
My brother is an aerospace engineer and hang glider pilot.
This is where my information comes.
He personally has been flying around the desert and areas for more than 3 hours at a time...
pretty cool or warm...
Ok, that makes perfect sense, thanks :)
Still curious about the measurement , if it where the disc first hits the ground those distances are absolutely INSANE!
You'd have to ask directly to the source on that one.
I've heard the thermal updraft from the dessert floor gives the disc more lift and glide.
The Disc is measured to where it first hits the ground.
Distance is measured from the throwing line to where the disc initially hits the ground - not where it ends up. Another advantage to throwing on the dry lake bed is the ability to throw long distances in ANY direction. When the wind changes direction, the thrower can easily adjust to take advantage. Also, all of the distance records and 200 meter throws made at Big D for the past 10 years have been measured with the same set of equipment. This adds more validity to the measurements and to the stature of the event.

Sunday a front came through and cooled things down. Without the daily heating of the desert floor, there was not much thermal action.
What method is used to measure?

Survey grade gps?
