cleaning discs

Does anyone know how to clean discs? I was practicing at my high school with a new set of discs I ordered and it was windy out. I threw one too high with my new nuke and it took a nosedive. On to asphalt. Now it has that black streak on it and I was considering dying it. Does anyone know the best way to clean off the black marks?

Try acetone. Its gets a lot of stuff out that soap water and a sponge wont.

Careful with acetone. It will also remove the factory stamp. Unless you are going to dye it I don't recomend using it

Is the acetone real abrasive to the disc or do you just have to go easy?

I just cleaned up my Nuke. After a couple months of abuse it was all marked up. It still flew the same but it looked grimy.

Typically a product called Goof Off removes dirt and other stuff very well but it didn't do much. So I tried acetone and with gentle rubbing it did the job.

It did take off the hotstamp but this made the disc look better. Originally the disc was red with a blue stamp. Once the stamp came off it turned the area under the stamp to pink. So the impression of the stamp is still legible, it is just fainter and a different color (now pink), which imo looks much better.

Every plastic is a bit different. Sometimes Goof Off works better, sometimes acetone works better.

I apply it with rubber gloves and a cotton ball ( kitchen dish washing pad for stubborn spots) then rinse it off immediately after.

The discs which benefit the most from cleaning are putters in D plastic. Goof Off makes them as shiny as new and restores that original grippy feeling you didn't even know you had lost. You know those white putters which have had years of wear and look dirty as heck? Soap and water won't touch that grime, which has penetrated into the plastic. Goof Off will bring it back to bright white.

I agree with jamie. I used to race rc cars and in the morning before the sun really warmed the track we would use goof off on the tires so we would have traction on the cold surface. It eats the plastic and rubber.

Right, Cassidy but it didn't stop you from using the product because it did its job. I have been cleaning my discs for over a decade with no apparent harm to the discs and substantial benefit because they feel better and I like them better.

A putter can last for well over a decade. If keeping it clean and grippy diminishes its life expectancy by some tiny percentage then so be it. You clean your clothes, your home and many of your possessions. That cleaning is done by friction and solutions which probably shortens the life expectancy of whatever is being cleaned. Ok, so be it.

If I'm reading this right Alex is in High School??? If he's is under 18 he may not even be allowed to purchase the solvent (xylene) based Goof Off, Oops, or Acetone.
