Course Allocation Questions

1. How many courses should you build in a city of 500,000 before you build one for a city of 50,000?

2. If both cities already have one course, how many more courses should you build in the city of 500,000 before you build the second course in the city of 50,000?

Pretend both cities share a budget and you are in charge of it.

The reason I ask is to refine my service levels formula. I want to pin down the value of incremental courses in an area (or holes on a course).

Rather than add conditions, I'd rather hear how the answers to each of your questions would affect your answers to my questions.

Given the limited iformation I don't see any answer other than 10 to 1 making sense. the closest way to balance it is build 5 in the big city then 1 in the small city and then 10 more in the big city. This could change if for instance the small city was very close to the big city and had more land available so you could build better courses. Another thing that could change it is level of participation. does the small city have a large disc golf community? But if all we have to go on is population just make it proportional.

There are a lot of factors that I would consider other than population.
What are the demographic differences between the two cities?
How much land is available?
Do you want to increase the number of visitors to one on the cities more than the other?
How big is your budget?

That's why I'm trying to isolate just one (population). Just assume that anything else that would influence your decision is neutral between the two cities. There's enough land, enough budget, etc.
