CTP question

During a tournament this weekend there was a little controversy on marking a ctp. The ctp marker was further away from the basket than the persons disc. The problem is the lie was out of bounds. My view on this is the ctp is usually marked where the disc comes to rest. I do not think an OB disc should get the reward of a ctp. Plus it's hard to mark a ctp flag in asphalt. What is your take?

that is not considered a lie because being out of bounds makes your disc a meter in from the ob line and the last place it was in bounds. that is a confusing one lol

OB is OB. and I always bring a tape measure to mark my CTP since I got jyped on one once,haha. but it's all good man.. it's a CTP.. not the mark of a champion or anything.. right?

I wouldn't think an OB disc would or should not win a CTP. You would have to mark were it went OB not were it came to rest.

I agree out of bounds is out of bounds... Bringing it closer to the pin wouldnt be right... The throw shouldnt have been marked in bounds or out of bounds...

In any competition I have ever seen you have to remain in play. CTP Long Drive anything. If the longest drive so far is 300' and you rip one 450' before it goes OB 300' is still the mark to beat. On CTP if you go sailing over the basket and go OB and I drop mine 2' in front of the tee I win CTP because mine remained in play.

CTP in this case is based on the lie of a player's first throw. Once a disc lands OB, it's now lying two whether you measure it to where it is in OB or where it went out. It's simply disqualified because it's not a first throw.

A disc that comes to rest OB can't be CTP. As Chuck said...it's disqualified. No question about it.

"Closest To Pin" , is something done at tournaments and leagues. Someone puts a prize(disc/s, hats, shirts, swag, etc.) up as a CTP. They pick a hole and put a flag and a piece of paper out on that hole. When everyone throws the closest to the pin(basket) on their FIRST shot puts the flag at the front of their disc and signs the card. When everyone is finished the flags are collected and whoever was closest wins that prize!

Chuck hit that one right on the nose! CTP is your first throw, not your OB penalty. If your OB than you are disqualified, no argument, just accept it! Maybe next time you will try to stay in bounds.

There are no PDGA rules for CTPs or any of the other numerous side games (ace pools, 50/50, ring of fire, etc.) that might occur at a tournament or league. Therefore it is up to the TD to decide the rules.

There may be well established customs in some places dealing with certain side games and it is possible that the rules for some games have been published somewhere at some time. Still, it is up to the TD to define the games at his/her event and determine who the winner is.
