I like the DB5s. We have a course in TTown (Moose Run at Chandler Park) where DB5s are permanently installed. The only complaint I hear is they don't catch putts well...well to that we say, "We all have to play the same targets." An inner set of chains can be easily installed to make the DB5s catch putts better.
Moose Run has been installed for a little over a year now and no signs of rust on the factory welds (now the county worker welds for the permanent install are showing signs of rust, they tried to paint their welds, but a little rust is beginning to show on some baskets).
With a permanent install of these type of baskets (see above), the support base was not needed since permanent collars were installed. Sorry to hear that your DB5 has this issue...it's the first time I have heard of it. Maybe the welder on your DB5 was having a bad day when he welded that support base.
