Disc Golf Clichés

I would like hear some of your Disc Golf Clichés.  And whether or not you think they are Valid. I'll start with the two I’ve heard repeatedly since I started playing.

 

1.       The prettier the disc the better it flies. – May be Valid – Actually I seem to throw them better.  Probably because I don’t want to lose the pretty discs.

2.       Drive for show. Put for Dough. – Invalid – Bad drives will have you out of contention for dough before you even get to put.

What about your cliché disc golfer? Everyone thinks that you have to be some sort of hippy pot-smoking miscreant to be involved in a sport with "frisbees."

Part of what I love about disc golf is that I am able to meet other disc golfers from every walk of life.

Here's the scenario...

You start your round out with visions of 18 down dancing in your head, only to bogey the very first hole. One of the other guys on the card says, "Don't worry about it, it's only the first hole." Or, "You have plenty of holes to make up for that."

Personally, I don't care if the bogey is on the first hole or last. It is still a dreaded bogey.

I would rather bogey the first hole and get it out of the way. Getting a bogey is not a round killer and dealing with a bogey is part of the game. If you can't deal with it then you probably won't shoot very well.

A bogey is a Bogey and still take a toll on your total score. it hurts especially when it comes to duce or die courses.

Yesterday I bogeyed the first 4 holes, finished the round on a +5, i suppose that's the advantage of being a player that has never broken par. I landed up shooting my normal score anyway. Even those 5's and 6's dont upset me, I got a 5 yesterday on an easy hole... followed it up with my best drive of the day.

"Drive for show, put for dough" is getting cliche, but it sums up most holes that you don't park close enough for a tap in. If you throw a 300+ drive within 20 feet of the hole, it doesn't matter unless you can hit that 20 footer. If you miss it you're pulling a disappointing par, equivalent to if you threw a horrible drive and a great mid-range for an easier putt.

Bad putts cancel out good drives. Epic putts can make up for bad drives.

Drive for show Putt for dough! That is not saying you can have a really bad drive and putt it in from 300 feet.... it means some of the guys that drive farther then you and still can't putt worth beans... are not likely to win anything!

I played with a guy for some time that out drove my by 50 -75 feet and I pared the same holes a birdied the same holes. Driving is a big part of the game, but what wins it for me is mid-range and putting!

"it's just a Roc shot" no there are lots of disc that can get it there, not just a Roc

Aces come in spurts, Ace #1- 5/8/10, Ace #2- 10/20/10. Thats not exactly true

Pro's play for money, I don't know very many pros that win enough money to cover the cost of travle.
