disc golf video form

We both have been playing for about a year now. We have played in tournaments for 4 months now. He took all first in junior. I took T2 best and 2 last places. I have been all over.

Son- The form was not close enough to see the first time. The first 4 throws for my son who is 18. First one was 350 teebird, then flipped the 2nd went about 220. teebird then a great comet at 300. last he had a okay teebird at 310. He use to throw 99.9 forehand. He is trying out backhand now in practice rounds. Then a okay one at 320.

Mine was Terrible thought it was good went about 200, okay went around 390 but got about a 150 foot roll I think. 300 ft wraith. about a 280 Xpress

My son can throw a driver forehand 300-370.
Backhand- He can only throw comets and ss avengers comets go 310 max. avengers go about 330 max

It is possible that the limited view we get from the video snippets doesn't give us a fair representative sample of what your and your son's shots look like. But from what appears, although you and your son throw in opposite ways (forehand vs. backhand) both of you seem to show a similar flaw, that is, both of you throw with mostly arm and not enough body. The good news is that you reported good distance from the shots, so if those shots are traveling well over 300 feet with that form then you both have excellent snap. As your form improves with practice you will both throw with very fine power.

If a player is throwing a short shot, say 100 feet or so, then he can get away with throwing all arm. It's a short shot and not much power is needed. The farther the throw, the more benefit there is, for both power and accuracy to put more body into it. There is also less strain on your arm and shoulder since your body is doing so much of the work.

The major muscle groups in the legs and torso should be a source of significant power. If you bend your knees and coil your torso fully back before exploding forward your form will look more like the classic form we see from most pros. Neither you or your son show much pull back or follow through on the shots we see. A full pull back and follow through will help both backhand and forehand drives. It is common for forehand throwers not to pull back far enough, which limits their power potential.

Your son's shots would benefit from a flatter plane. That is, his pull back, snap forward and follow through are not parallel to the ground. Flat and level are important starting points to developing forehand control.

Try to find a local pro to look at your shots and give suggestions. Good luck.
