I was lucky enough to borrow a Disc Diver disc retriever at Big Creek near Des Moines during and it got it on the second toss. I was able to see the disc. I keep thinking I need to get one of these.
my invisible friend jack does a pretty good job. I would trade him for an invisible friend that could swim and climb trees though.
I bought a Disc Diver Golden Retriever at Worlds and it has saved over $100 in plastic so far. Works well in water and on thin ice.
I had a Quic' Stic' from Iowa in 2006, it saved unimaginable plastic. An aluminum metal pole that folds up like a tent pole w/string and a little hook that was not so good at holding onto a disc rim. It snapped in half in a raging creek after a big rain and I had to toss it.

Then got a Golden Retriever which has saved a dozen+ discs, some unrechable even with a long stick. I have used it for water hazards and for over-a-fence retrieval.
I also Have the golden retriever, works wonders on my home course where water plays on 13 of the 21 holes. I also at one time had one of those extenda- poles. Basically just a ball retriever with the end modified to retrieve a disc and not a golf ball. These work rather well also. Also doubles as a tree retriever. Getting discs out forn the tops of palm trees can be a royal pain in the aejgbakjgn. So i guess the pole was the best, but when more distance is needed use the golden retriever.

the best disc retriever in the world is my chocolate lab "hazle" she will dive for any disc, and no teeth marks to boot!

the golden retreiver is awesome when u can see the disc. the extending poles with hooks on the end seem to work better when u can't see the disc
my casddie, a 15 year old boy who swims, climbs and loves the sport. He's one hell of a retriever.
