Discraft Great Lakes Open

Since registration was extended for the Great Lakes Open my girlfriend and I are thinking of competing. I don't know much about the tournament scene (I only volunteered at AM Worlds and that was my first experience with anything like it) and was curious if any of ya'll would be there or if it is really worth our time $110 + gas from ohio + food + whatever else we spend will be a little pricey. Would it be better for us to pick another smaller event or try for this one? maybe find smaller local events? I don't see many Womens AM 2 options and she wants to start out slow. I would be doing AM 4 and I don't think we could do doubles. We'd like to but I'm not sure when Dubs starts and I don't get off work till 4-ish...
