I just got it about a month ago.  Theres not a whole lot you can do.  If you know you get it easy make sure you wear pants to the courses that you think have the poison ivy.  Take a COLD shower as soon as you finish.  Plus there is some shot that you can get that will prevent you from getting it for 1 year.  I haven't personally looked into myself, but may be worth the try.
Try not to handle the bottom of your shoes when putting them on or taking them off !!!
Also, if you get into a really bad patch of ivy, wash the shoes (or at least the laces) in soap and water when you get home!  Otherwise you will get it on yourself next time you put on those shoes!
It is not the cheapest alternative, but Zanfel works wonders!  I used it a couple of days ago on a fresh patch of little "bubblies" on my ankle zone.  Never once did I scratch (especially a problem while I sleep, I think), and it has shrunk to non-existence by today.  Good stuff!  Get some for yourself and don't share...it's too exspensive!
My Doctor told me to keep my disc in the fairway and I wont have a problem. What a prick! lol
Don't play those courses until fall! That's what I do. Just not worth it.
I'm not allergic to it at all. In fact I must have had some on me when I shook this guys hand a while back and within 15 minutes his arm was a red, swollen, itchy mess.

Fortunately I seem to be immune to the stuff, lucky since Florida is a greenhouse for growing anything.

Thanks for the home recipe Jamie.

yup. Tecnu is awesome.

Long pants and be aware of your surroundings. Maybe even bring a pair of gloves for removal from said plants.
