The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

This is new to me, up until just a few days ago I never throw my mid-range disc's for anything but a short shot, but I started playing them off the tee and I can really control where the disc goes, and I can driver them a lot farther then I thought I could! I have also just started using my putting for some shots under 200 feet and the control it really easy once you get used to throwing a putter that hard.

I know this is not a new idea and alot of you do this... how has this worked out for you who have tried. And I listen (kinda) to any tips.

I started doing that a while ago because everything else went to long. I feel like the best thing with putters is to be slow and smooth. All of my aces have been with putters.
ive used mid-ranges off the tee since i first started playing this wonderful sport. Since i learned to play at will rodgers here in the 405, and alot of the shots are short my friend that got me started playing gave me a roc and said here you go, because the disc is slower i get alot and i mean ALOT more accuracy, and i dont have to worry about bypasing the bucket, but now about putters, its hard for me to throw a putter for other than putting (since i use 150 class putters) i just cant throw them with any accuracy off the tee, but thats me...
i tell all newbs to use a neutral mid for their first driver. i love rhynos off the tee. and use a mid whenever i can off the tee. once i started doing this my scores dropped and even started throwing my drivers farther. my only tournament win came using my rhynos off the tee. every birdie i got was with them.
I just Traded for a Big Bead Star Aviar so I could start driving with a putter before I would use my FLX Buzzz on shorter holes
I start useing midrange, when i first because i only had three disc's. I had a midrange, fairway driver, and a extra long driver. Now, I have more midrange then any others. I do love the better control and flight. Sometimes,I even try them on the long ones for fun. I fine handed in the tree line rows, where it does get a little tight.
Now it's time to putt with drivers.

Honestly if it's real windy out sometimes a driver will cut the wind and go in while putting while the putter gets held up in the wind. Every shot should be analyzed by what you are trying to do and not what the disc is called. You can choose to utilize any disc in different situations. You just have to know what the disc will do. I absolutely love the Banshee for approach shots because it is so predictable. So why not drive with a putter? Just learn it and you will do fine.
The more I play, the more I drive with putters and mids.

Tip: Don't throw your mid, or putter like a driver even though you are driving with it. Many times I will get the urge to rip my mid, or putter farther then it would go on a normal throw. I end up over throwing it, and lose control of the disc. Find your distance for each disc, and go for control before distance.
I found one day while ripping a putter that I had to hyzer it quite a bit because otherwise it would just flip over. But I could crush it out there because it reminded me of throwing those old Whamos back in the day. It definitely won't fly like a Destroyer or a Banshee. But when I got the hang of it I could place some drives right where I wanted them.
What about a 40mph headwind? Still switch to your driver?
I have about 30 aces with a Pro D Challenger, not the same exact one, but putters go in! Definitely what Jim says tho. Analyze the shot for what it is and what you want the flight of the drive to look like, then pick the disc that does that the best.

You owe me $5 if you choose to listen to this advice.
Wasp for me.
