Election Guidelines

PDGA Members:

 

You should receive your e-ballot today for the Board election.  Here are some simple guidelines.

 

Do not vote for me unless you agree with my platform of reform (for abbreviated version see post #214 on my PDGA Discussion Board thread).  If the membership does not want reform then I have no business being on the Board.  This means:

 

1) If you vote for the Bylaws change allowing the Board to appoint some of its own members, do not vote for me (#37).

2) If you vote for establishment candidates Feldberg, or Decker, or Pozzy, do not vote for me.

3) Unite behind nonestablishment candidates Solt, Duffy and Lowe (#226).

What would you try to change if we elect you? Personally I would like to see cheaper pdga membership dues - maybe make the magazine an option (although I would still subscribe) and cheaper entry fees to tournaments. We just had a B tier and entry fees were $35, $45 and $55 and originally there was only going to be a shirt in the players pack. Being the V.P. of our club I mildly grumbled about the price (questioned) and our club president said that was what the PDGA recommended and then we went ahead and added a custom stamped disc to the players pack. Due to the excellent social skills and relationships our club president and members were able to build, our event was a success.

The PDGA has maximum fee guidelines for each tier, not recommended fees. I've seen B-tiers with $25 entry fees.

To see what I would change, look at posts #52, 56 and 214 on my "Candidate" thread on the PDGA website.  I do believe that dues should be decreased, especially for Amateur members.  I do not, however, believe that the PDGA should control entry fees.  Tournament directors are, by far, our most important resource, and we should give them as much latitude as possible.

The PDGA does not control tournament fees.  I'm not even sure they recommend them anymore.  There was an attempt to limit them a few years ago, but it only lasted a few months.  It's in the hands of TDs.....and we TDs are catering to what players seem to want, which is higher payouts and thus higher entry fees to generate them.  (Run a lower-fee, lower-payout event and you often get lower turnout, gripes about the low payout, or both).
