There are so many movies that I like and a lot that are my favorites.
This is unfair. It should be favorite movie of each genre. Horror, Action, Romance, Drama etc.........
But I have to side and comment on the "HORROR" section.
I have seen many horror films in the recent decades, but none of them ever scared me.
Halloween...... Boring.
Friday the 13th.. Yawn.
And you get the picture.
I will have to put my vote in for.......................
Carpenter's "The Thing"
Extraterrestials, aliens of the mean kind.
Somebody needs to kick cute little E.T.'s azz.
"The Thing" was a master piece, and made one say "What the F**k" as you screamed.
My number one movie choice..................
The original "JAWS"
I know that now a days, "Jaws" is lame due to modern day graphics.
But "JAWS" has the record for scraying the most people in and out of the theraters.
Tourist destinations that involved swimming at the beach lost money, because people
were affraid to get in the water. No movie in recent history has scared more people then
"JAWS"

I knew about Carpenter's version.
Now I'll have to find it and watch that version.

Permalink Reply by mr ed on August 17, 2011 at 6:00pm Hey Vic, a Howard Hawks production circa 1951.Cast includes many recognizable faces that were in many movies and tv series of the 50's & 60's.Jamess Arness was the original "Thing".The tv series, 'Dennis the Menance" the father of Dennis was a cast member. Many 50'sci-fi movies had quite a few actors that you might recognize in this movie.
Plot revolves around an Air Force scientist group finds "something " in the ice.The old "gottcha" scare techniques of what you don't really see,but your imagination runs wild scares the bejesus out of our young minds then.Early Cold War era type likewise.
Don't spill the popcorn.

Permalink Reply by mr ed on August 17, 2011 at 6:10pm Another 50's scare ya movie,1958 if I recall.
There was also a movie with Forrest Tucker that took place at a ski resort, delt with a huge ,gray cloud that envelopes this ski resort.Aliens of course.Once the cloud decended, found their victim{s}, they lost their heads.Aliens wanted their brains, think the "monster alien" wound up being an octopuss."B" movie scare tactis, music, dark corners, etc. The unknown scare tactic used without the gore.
