The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
So these fluorescent streamers randomly appeared, tied on to every basket at my local course this summer. I personally can't stand them and see no practicality to having them "decorate" the target. I find it increadably distracting to putt at because it virtually shrinks the area I aim at. At this particular course, only a few holes are effected by wind and its never strong at all, so it really gets me scratching my head, who's idea was this and what if I want to cut them all off?

Most of them will end up on the ground anyway.

Permalink Reply by MonTTy #794 on January 26, 2013 at 9:50am Chainstars are hard to locate on a wooded course with lots of blind shots. Cheesy or not they have helped us during the Azalea Tournaments for those that do not play here often. No complaints.

The streamers in the target area shown are not PDGA legal unless they are completely inside the outer chain envelope. However, streamers or banners can be attached to the outside of the basket or under it. Or, a flag or cone can be mounted on top for better visibility.
Permalink Reply by Bruce Brakel on January 26, 2013 at 3:34pm For one out of 16 male disc golfers those are grey streamers on a grey basket. So much for visibility.
Permalink Reply by Rob Liebman on January 26, 2013 at 6:15pm Am I the only one connecting this thread to Jim's about crooked baskets? I think we should put streamers on the baskets to let us know if the basket is not level, and if not, which way it is leaning so we can compensate. Sorry Jim, couldn't resist!
I love the flags on the top of baskets to help with finding them and also to help with wind direction at the pin. Not sure I would be thrilled with anything at or below basket level from a distraction standpoint?
Permalink Reply by Skipper H / Ripdiscgolf.com on January 28, 2013 at 12:41am Yeah a single flag on top is out of the way, and at the same time helps you see the basket and which way the wind is going. I would be pulling those things off!
Permalink Reply by Jim Coonradt on January 28, 2013 at 9:38pm Yeah, I was just on the DGA site and they sell a 3 flag combo that can tell you wind speed.

I am not endorsing their particular product but it does seem decent and will actually tell a disc golfer how strong the wind is and in what direction.
