Guess I was a little slow on the uptake.

After way too long of a break due to work related, educational, familial, and other matters which ate up my time, I am knocking the dust off of my realtively new pass time of Disc Golf. In doing so and watching Various DG tournaments on Youtube etc. I realize that I may have missed one small but important thing. All along when learning to drive I was reading up on Distance driving technique. (i.e. Gripping the disc so it's ripped out of your hand with a "Pop" etc".) Lately in watching the videos, I'm seeing that what as often as not is happening must be a fairway drive. I notice the pros putting a lot of spin on the disc, without the pop etc. My local courses here Mostly have a fairly low ceiling of trees etc. and the holes average about 300 ft, with longer ones being maybe 500. I'm thinking I really need to try to develop more of the style of drive I'm seeing (with more of a  spin imparted on the disc) than the Grip and Rip style, that seems to be in order when the pros are playing the huge wide open Golf Courses etc. needing Maximum distance. I look forward to seeing how the change in approach pans out.

I'm not a pro but I've been playing for 13 years and I've had a real breakthrough year in '11.  A 20 year old kid taught me to use a full pull back in my backswing, looking away from the target.  I went from maxing out at 350 feet, to throwing 450+.  Honestly my accuracy, even in woods is better because I am using a straight pull back to straight drive, which is much more forgiving for slight release timing issues, imho.  For short, really tight fairways, I go back to using my old style, which is whipping my arm around my body and snapping it for all its worth.  With proper mechanics, the snap will come, I can turn over an Ape now.
