Permalink Reply by Mike on January 29, 2009 at 2:01pm IMO opacity vs. clarity of discraft Z plastic has more to due with that individual disc's plastic mix than weight as I have lots of clear and opaque discraft Z discs
Permalink Reply by Evan on January 29, 2009 at 3:02pm For sure plastic mix does matter, as well as slight defects when molding such as a thing called "Splay" which can happen if there is any moisture in the material. If the material is stored outside in a scilo where the temp is low and then conveyed into a warm building. This creates condensation on the pellets and they begin to sweat. Now, most companies use air diffusers in the machine hoppers to help dry the pettets and heat them up, but it is still possible to get condensation. Splay, leaves a marbled white/silver looking pattern around the injection gate area most commonly, but I have noticed it on some of both major companies discs across the flight plates because they are so thin. Many factors in Injection molding, a lot of common problems that any plastic manufacturing facility faces, I don't care what your name is.
