I beleive Discraft's Mark Ellis said it best, Keep practicing, playing, and a few thousand throws later you will get sidearm throwing. Personally sidearm, for me, is a feel or touch throw compared to backhand. All the stars have to be aligned . Some days my sidearm sucks, and some day's it's awesome. "That's the way the cookie crumbles. "
I think he said "a few thousand HOURS of practice later......" LOL!
I think that what I need is practice.
You shouldn't have to throw with all of your might. Forehand is about snap and flat release. A lot of players I see that throw FH well, Drive below their waist and follow through with their body. When I practice forehand I go to a big field or parking lot and start out soft and work up to throwing hard. As Mark Ellis would say, learn to throw deadnuts flat. Watch a lot of videos, it really helps.
alot of my midrange shots I just really move my arm alitlle and it goes a hundred and fifty feet.
http://www.discraft.com/team_bennett.html Geoff Bennett is the forehand king. Read his profile he will tell you the technique that allows him to throw over 600 feet forehand.
i wish i could help you but im in the same boat mark ellis told me to practice 30 min a day and thats been paying great dividends practice makes perfect easier said than done charleston highs have been 40 its hard for a island fellow to even practice with that did i say with wind chill 15 i give my yankee brothers some credit for playing in the snow,

Now this is one of the reasons I love disc golf!
Go see Mark in Michigan, so you can learn how to practice properly.
Some people have really strange definitions of Practice.
Ever heard the Coach yell "We need to get back to the fundamentals"!
This is where you need to start, and figuring out the fundamentals in Disc Golf can be difficult.
If you are down South in Sunny Florida you can stop by the Clearwater Disc Golf Store for instruction and lessons.
We have two in house instructors, Joe G. 5740 and Scott S. 5003 and we are able to secure a lesson from Ken Climo 4297...if he is not out touring! Plan that into your next vacation...Disney is an hour away!!!
I might be able to make it sometime on a weekend. I have practice for wrestling during the week.
I would be in my car doing about 110mph,thinking here comes the sidearm.
