What do you do when your playing with a guy who shaves strokes? My club is very beginner friendly and have a new member who seems to have trouble counting. I'm not trying to run the guy off but would like him play the game correctly.
I would just keep an eye on him and keep score. The minute he miscounts. I'd nicely bring it up. Like, are you sure? hmmm lets see... one here....two there.. and so on. I'm a pretty mellow guy. So I wouldn't get in his face, but I would bring it up in a subtle way. Just to let him know we ae watching.
maybe this guy can't count explain the count to him,and like Rescue said keep a good eye on it but, don't loose concentration on your own game though. We had a guy that would shave points ya know we just let him know tht we were keeping up with everyones strokes on the card
yeah i would agree with rescue, i dont cheat but occasionally i lose count and have to manually recount by remembering where i threw from. but a lot of people do try to shave stokes intenionally if i catch them i just say r u sure, and have them recount aloud that way you dont have to call them out but everyone will catch on and kinda help police them. after a while they will stop and just focus on getting better to lower thier scores instead of cheating. some will persist and and argue with you but i just say sorry and try not to play with them again if i have a choice, sometimes you got to let it go and just play your game.
OK,I have to tell you this funny story, well it was funny to me after the fact. It was my very first time plaing ball golf. When I would putt and the ball would miss the hole, but would end up only a few inches from the hole. One of the guys I was playing with would say "Oh that's a gimmy" So everytime he said that. I wouldn't count that "gimmy" putt. So if it was a "six" I would say. I got a "5" and so on, and so on. I can still see the look on this guys face. Like WTF?? Man I still laugh my a$$ off when I think of that day.
