The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

So the weather tonight wasn't so good (about 50 with a few sprinkles). It really wasn't that bad but only two people showed up. So since it was doubles we decided to play anyway with the two of us getting one extra shot per hole. And since it was officially a league night we each put in a dollar for the ace pool. Now I pretty much knew beforehand that I was not going to win since the guy I was going up against was way better. So it was basically an ace run on each and every hole (although I don't have the distance to get to some of them).

The question is whether we should have been playing for ace pool. I say yes because we showed up on a league night while nobody else did. With only two people there could be the possibility for cheating but neither myself nor the other guy is like that. So while others may have complained if ace pool was hit tonight, I think that it would have been their own fault for not showing up. We would have deserved the money because we showed up and put in the buck.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? It was a first for me.

Good question  to ask your fellow dger's next club/league meeting.

Another would be the minimum players needed for ACE pool.

We require at least 6 people in order for the Ace pool to be payed out. Just sayin
we require a min. of 5 players for ace fund to be active

I think the minimum is unfair to the players who showed up. I say if it's a league night, then it's all the same rules as any other league night.

Now, that means that you two played it unfarily and gave yourselves an extra shot on each hole to get an ace. You two should have been partners and played a normal doubles round. That would be following all of the same rules as any other night.

The guys that show up shouldn't be rewarded nor penalized for showing up in bad weather.

In our league play it is typically a minimum of 3 to even play

I believe that if you show up and play the ace pool should be in effect. Otherwise you are being penalized because others didn't show up. As for both of us playing Cali (one extra shot per hole) we did that because it was doubles night. And we often have a Cali during a normal doubles night so we aren't getting anything that someone else couldn't already get. Also you won't always take an extra drive although on short holes you probably will.

I do see the other side of it as well. Cheating really wasn't an issue since I run league and am an honest person. Anyone who knows me is aware of that. But I also see how that could be called into question.

A definite crazy situation that has never happened in the last ten years. If I were to place a minimum I would probably say three as that way it would be two teams. But then again we had two teams last night (each person was their own partner).

Maybe this will spark people to show up for league. I have definitely played in much worse weather. Last night was decent weather for sure with no wind.
