So... I tried throwing mine as soon as they appeared in the mail on Friday; and so far, I have mixed feelings about it. First off, it is one of the sexiest disc I have ever held in my hand. It's feel is also miss leading since it feels very flat, which makes you think it have similar flight characteristics as an over-stable driver, right? No. Granted, the first time I ever threw the Katana, it was very windy out. That's when I drew my first conclusion about the disc, bad windy-day disc, or at least head wind. I couldn't seem to find a sweet spot or good release for the disc, but I'm sure as time goes by, I will learn to love it.
crazy disc fast and understable I have a pro. what I've learned about this disc so far 1,dont throw it in a headwind.2, dont throw it hard unless you want to roll. 3. this thing will glide really far with about 60% power for me. to sum it up I threw this as far as my wraith with about half the power but if I throw to hard this thing is flippy. does fly on a nice anny with less power but still goes far I think it would be a great disc for someone with good form but not much power.
Soooo........ If I wanted a long range turnover disc, would this be it? Are we talking turn over and glide, or turn over and die? Or turn over and roll? I know that power, touch, and weight are big considerations.
Hmmmm??My sra sidewinder is fairly overstable. I know...its not rated as such but it is. My Valk is the geatest disc created...but it is a wiered one. Thank God its champ plastic so i can rely on its charactereistics. I got a first run groove and have found it to be decidedly overstable.Wraithish in flight and a almost bunk disc in every other respect.I really have great hopes for the Katana....understable discs are the shit. A player can shape shots with them...not have to shoot the hyped shape.
So far Out of the box they look and fly just like my Boss. Not that that is a bad thing just not what I was expecting. I received two 175 CFR blem katanas. One is orange almost peach but still very day glo, the other is the brightest day glo yellow green. I throw a 173 CFR boss. I have not had them to a course with long holes or to the football field yet so that will be the real test.
Had them out on some long holes today. not very much different than my champion boss. They may come closer to a useable utility driver once they break in a bit. right now the only time I use the Boss is long headwind drives. for all else I use a destroyer or Beast. I only get 10-30 ft more with the destroyer and I can control the Beast alot better. I hope they get a bit flippier with time. I'm maxing out with the destroyer right now at @ 360 or so, just have not brought my drives back to where they were before I broke my wrist in Dec. I am finally getting enough snap in the destroyer to make it S curve.
This is the ultimate distance disc for anyone not able to really flip discs, sure to get some people more distance. A++ in my book. Ladies get some r-pro lightweight ones from HERO and enjoy some more distance.
