Is spam now a way of life?

I am sure that I am not the exception when it comes to getting 'junk mail' or spam in my email folder every time that it is opened.

Get everything from "A rich Nigerian Prince has endowed me with millions --- as long as I give them my bank account numbers and credit card information."

To russian brides and more.

The spam filters only work so much.

this is the way I combat this.. I created an email address that I use for when I have to sign up for anything on the web...then I have an email address that I ONLY give to people that I would actually contact and get legit email from.

oddly enough one of the funniest I've gotten, I got from this website.. someone sent me a friend request saying that they needed to talk to me "urgently" and that I needed to click on a link in order to "chat" LMAO.

unfortunately with the dps (public domain) website, get spammed a lot.

Grateful that I own a Mac! don't have to pay for security software.

Pay for security software?  Only newbs go down that pathway...or my parents with an itchy mouse finger.  There are numerous completely free options that do just a good, if not better, job than their annual fee couterparts.  Just saying...  Macs are great and all, let's just not try to put them on some kind of golden pedestal like all of their owners seem so inclined to do.

 

Just got one yesterday via a local disc golfers e-mail address.  He is not computer savvy, does not have any money, and probably hasn't left town in over 20 years.  He lived without a root canal for 2 years because he couldn't afford it.  The spam stated that he was in Spain on business and had all of his belongings stolen and that he urgently needed funds sent to get him out of the situation.  Who falls for this stuff?

I had a guy from some central African country saying that a person with my last name (Same name as those goddamn sparkly vampires) had died in a car accident and he could not locate the next of kin, and since I had that name, would I be interested in being his next of kin and receive 14.7 million dollars? Of course i gave him ALL my financial info. Yeah right.

I once got a check in the mail for 5000 bucks from some bank in Texas. Looked it up and it was another Nigerian scheme.  I had it on my wall for the longest time...forget where it is now though.
