Actual sleeves in the ground is 77. With shared positions the number is higher (probably closer to 90). Hole number 1 has 8 positions (maybe 9 if you count a shared position). Hole 16 has 9. Hole 3 has 6. Hole 4 only has 3 but with shared positions the number is 9 (shared with 1 and 9).
I actually enjoy having many different targets to shoot at but some complain. Some would be happy with one per hole. Not me. Having more positions means you won't play the same course twice. Keepin it fresh....
Actually came up with 100 if you count shared positions. Wow.
Including shared positions, Sylmar has 77 positions for 18 holes... You could add one if you want to play 9's tee to the practice putting basket.
I would like to see a sensible redesign of our course. Don't get me wrong. I love this course and the versatility it presents to a disc golfer. It will train your game in so many ways. But some issues have nothing to do with pin positions and everything to do with stormwater drainage work done here. We lost two and a half fairways and survived. But when you play the course, it feels like something is now missing and there are a few places where two fairways are more like one fairway. Everything has been compressed in, including tee positions and baskets. At times it can be a mess. But if you happen to get out on a day when nobody else shows up, it can be a great challenge. And every week or two some pins change position.
If we did a good redesign we would stay away from the pedestrian path. That would help out a lot. And if we could get good holes designed to start with we could have three, maybe 4 positions on each of the redesigned holes. The first four holes would essentially stay the same. And there are many positions on those first four holes. The key to any redesign would be to see if we would lose a lot of length. Could we still have those bomber shots? That is part of the nature of this course. Wouldn't want to lose that.
Snapper has these Colored Dots , placed on the Tee Sign each week , stating where the Pin position is for that Week. It also changes for any Major tournaments that year as well.
Also , a few holes at MorleyField , have alternate teepads , making a couple holes alot longer. Teepad # 8 and Teepad # 9 have Long positions , as well as Hole # 17. This is in addition to the Multiple Pin Positions per hole. Some have 5-7 different pin positions , while others may have as many as 10 different pin positions. Alot of Variety for Both Left and Right handed shots , as well as Sidearm Drives. The Pin Positions always change every Monday ( Beginning of the Week ).
I do have to say that having options like that makes a course more versatile. The total length of the course can easily be changed as well as having shots for all different kinds of players. We do some alternate tees during league at times. On one hole there is an old teepad that we call the "man tee". It lengthens what is already a quite long hole and makes it more difficult.
i dont care just like to get out and play, if i get bored , i play safari or go to another course. Who changes the pins!
