The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
Anybody else out there have a hole or a few holes that you use for league play only? We recently put in a new hole position (probably the only one going in this year). Up until last year our course had been the same for at least 10 years. We realized that adding in a few new positions could be a positive step and so last year we added about a dozen new positions.
Anyway, the new position is a short left position on our hole #11. It was an unused piece of terrain that gives us a third option on the hole. However, the hole can also be used for #10 and #13. But we don't want to use it all of the time because of traffic and destruction of bushes. That does give us the option to play it for league only. Before the league round we go out and move it and place appropriate signage at the tee box. We did that this past week for league and used that new position for a new difficult blind shot into the trees on #13. It was used Wednesday and Thursday and immediately following league on Thursday it was put back to normal short.
This way we don't disrupt the flow of the course for more than one day and we (league players and whoever comes through at the same time) get the opportunity to play some very alternate positions. We have also done this with a few other positions. I think that it works quite well and keeps the boredom factor down. It also means that you better figure out how to play a new hole quickly.
By the way the alternate position is about 30 feet left of normal short, straight through a wooded gap. I doubt that anyone will ace it but you never know. It was birdied already.
