The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Hello everyone,
My name is Peter Berkey I live in northeast Pennsylvania and I'm thinking of opening a local disc golf shop. In my area I have 8 courses within 15 min of where the store will be (2 of them were used in the 2005 worlds) and 11 more within 1 hour away. I will be selling all disc golf related items including discs from at least 6 manufactures, bags, targets, disc related clothing, shoes, targets and more. I will also have a used disc program where if you find a disc or want to sell one I will give you store credit for them (if you bring one in with a name and phone number or email I will contact the owner to let them know that I have it and they can come pick it up Free of charge). I will also be selling other disc related items i.e. Ultimate discs, dog disc and rec discs. I plan on going to all of the local tournaments to set up a small stand to sell items also. I have posted this on my local clubs site with very little feedback but that is not surprising to me (long story). . I’m looking for any feedback on if standalone stores work if they are not directly on a disc golf course and any other advice. Thanks for you time. You can reach me via email at dodosdiscgolfshop@gmail.com if you prefer.

Peter, you are welcome to join the club in here I created for folks like you (and me): Bricks & Mortar. When I started it, I was just starting a store and wanted to bounce things off more experienced people. Then I got too busy making a Pro Shop happen and had no time to promote the club. Perhaps we can breathe some life back into it?

My feeling is that when it comes to physical store locations, we are unlikely to be in competition with each other so sharing secrets of success is a no-brainer. It's here: http://www.discgolfersr.us/group/bricksmortar.
