Im making a road trip from Grand Rapids, MI to Texas... not sure where in texas, im just goin for the ride... if anyone knows of some cool places to throw in between those two states thats on the way i guess, im up for suggestions! Thanks!
I'm a former Michigander now living in the beautiful state of Arkansas. We have a GREAT course in Russellville, right off
I-40. Little Rock has a double course, but I haven't played it yet. Fort Smith, also off I-40, has a good one, too. Let me know, I'd play a round with ya.
take I 45 all the way down to the end at Galveston Island you pass through Dallas which has many courses, then down to Houston which is loaded, and just off the Gulf Coast my home course Jack Brooks Park which has 2 18 hole courses. There are some pics of a few holes on my page. Check it out. All courses can be located in the PDGA course directory.
Burns Park in Little Rock, Ark. 36 Holes a red and a blue course, lots of pines and elevation shots. Great park and definitely worth stopping in at. There is a course in Batesville, Ark. called Lyon College Disc Golf Park that is simple yet so much fun to play you'll probably play a couple rounds I'm sure. There is a 450ft drive off of the top of the damn through a tunnel into a wide open field that is just an awesome hole. The college there did an absolute great job on that course. Look'em up man!
I have made a roadtrip every year for an average of 3 months, starting in Michigan, spending the greater part of time in Texas, going from course to course selling discs out of my RV.
Check out discflicker.com to see photos and a diary of these trips.
Texas is the SHEET for disc golf, I think its even more of a "Mecca" than anywhere else, including Michigan, which is no slouch at all. If I had to pick one area, I would have to say that Austin Texas is the disc golf capital of the world!
1) Round rock DGC
2) Peace park
4) Circle - K ranch
5) Circle - R ranch
I would suggest you stay away from searight park (which is just down the street from Disc Nation superstore, which you should not miss) the crown is rough... they are smoking hard drugs, its the only park out of I guess about 500 I have been to that I will not play again..
if you mean weed, you need to check your drug hand book.I dont see disc golfers out smoking crack or meth on the course, those are hard drugs. Seawright or Seawrong isnt that bad.Nobody will force you to do drugs either.
Below is a map showing two routes from Grand Rapids, MI to Austin, TX. You could drive one route down and the other route up, hitting as many different DGCs as possible. I live in Tulsa OK and we have quite a few DGCs in the area around Tulsa. Drop me a note here on DGRUS if you decide to take the I-44 route noted below through Tulsa and if I have time I will show you around Tulsa DGCs.
