Making a New Basket for back yard putting

So my roomate and I are welders by trade and plan on making a back yard basket to practice putting. My question is...How beneficial, if it all, do you think it would be to make the "catch" part of the basket not as tall as to force practicing into a tighter shot. Let me know what you think...Thanks
