I'd say it's more "flippy" than the Roc. A Gator is great mid and is plenty overstable. Of all the discs I've had in my bag. The Gator is the only one that has never been taken out of my bag. It's money!
Maybe? All I know is I never worry about it not hyzering back. No matter how much wind. I guess I like it because it's deadly from 150' in. It's a great disc, but if you want something with more "D". I use and love my Z Drone, but my Gator gets the bulk of the work.
I think that there is always room in the bag for an overstable workhorse like the Drone or Zone. They might be too stable for most shots, but I don't leave home without them. I agree with everyone that it is the consistency of these discs (the Drone especially) that is so appealing. Even with a ton of anhyzer, my Drone immediately starts to fight back and always finishes with a hyzer. It just laughs at the wind too.
Ya, I'm not a fan of the Star Gator. When I first started playing about 3 to 4 years ago. It was love at first throw. So I started buying any Champ Gator I saw. Via internet or at tournaments. So I have about 6 or 7 backups. 2 are 1st runs (dumb luck on those) I know they make some CFR's, but I don't know if they are the old mold or new one. Hmmm.. no bead on the Star Gators? I never noticed. Maybe that's why I didn't like them ? Thank God I'm not a trained observor lol!!!
