marked hazards, saved discs...

I play on a course with a river that will be mooving quite swift this spring, and have already had one hit the basket, then proceed to land, and roll right into the river.  Have you had a great shot turn sour on you too?  I propose a solution to lossing a disc, and a stoke, for water hazards with hill slides leading to them.  How about along with red steaks, a red painted 3x1 could be wedged in problem spots to save a rolling disc.  Anything touching, or thats has come in contact with this red board, at any time, would be a stoke, and would be played out as usual.  Would this "course improvement" be approved by the PDGA?

Cool Idea. I don't know that the PDGA would go for it, at least from the Little bit I have seen in the way the PDGA marks OB's and Hazards. Also, how would one take relief from the red 3x1? I know in all the Memorial Championship footage I have been watching, a Water Hazard or OB shot got a 3 ft. relief from the water, or edge of the OB. How would that work with the 3x1? If the red 3x1 is There, you didn't technically hit the water hazard. So, would you still get the 3 ft relief, or just throw from Behind the red 3x1?

Right, You would get 2 meters relief for your stance. But if your disc lie close to the O.B., like only 6-12 inches, it would not be obstuctive. Or if you could still not take a stance you would be allowed 2 meters.

This would cause too many problems , from the tee box how could you tell if the disc actually hit the wood and bounced back or if it came within inches of touching it and being OB ? There is really no way to solve this problem besides putting a net over the water !

This could be fixed by painting an OB line about a foot from the board. That way there is no question if it hit the board or not. If it hits the board and somehow go back in bounds your still good and very lucky. Also it's not 2 meters from OB. That's when your stuck in a tree, and nobody really plays that anymore. You do get relief from anykind of OB, Water, sidewalk, OB lines, or whatever else. You can take your 3 feet if your not OB, say if your a foot from the line you can move you shot up another 2 feet.

Sounds like a great idea to save disc, I've seen many of dinked putts roll into the water.

Thats exactly what I'd like to save here, a dinked putt, that still costs you a stoke, but also keeps your disc dry. 

I love the net Idea, although highly impractical.

So I guess its up to me to suggest the idea to the T.D.?

You could do this and them have the course marked to reflect the changes. It's a little like a tournament where the TD has set up OB's and rules. It's the TD's call on those areas. Whatever you do just have it posted on the hole signage appropriately.
