Michigan Kensington Metro Park Supervisor retires

I saw in the paper that the Kensington Metro Park supervisor is retiring after 35 years of service -- unfortunately, the newspaper was thrown out so no details to offer. I was wondering if this is the guy that kept the Toboggan Course out of the ground for most of the season and if so, is the new supervisor more open to this course going in permanently?

I can't believe we are losing the Tunnel. Hopefully they will see the demand and cost-value and put Toboggan in permanently+ a replacement Tunnel course.

I have heard that a new permanent replacement for the Tunnel is imminent....sure hope the tobaggon could be in the ground more.....

The fellow who has left (Schafer, I think) only reluctantly allowed the Toboggan course (after having folks go over his head a few times). He's been replaced by Kim Jarvis from Hudson Mills. Kim should be a good steward for the game there and throughout the park system.

I'm told the new course (replacing Tunnel) is mostly ready but without baskets so far. Someone in the office at the Mills a few days ago said the new layout might not go in until late spring. I hear they'll be building a little unit where they can collect the fees at the first tee area. If it follows like play at Hudson Mills, they'll patrol pretty heavily to be sure they get their bucks out of everyone. Even in cold, nasty weather we've been seeing the Man (or Angel) around the course several times a round recently...

the new course at kensington is going to be sweet. as far as the pay to play its the cost of three z plastic discs and i already have my 09 pass so i don't care anymore not going to pass up great courses to not pay that's stupid. 24 or 27 new holes at kensington cant wait

We aren't losing anything. We are gaining a BRAND NEW 18 hole course and a 9 hole championship course. The new supervisor Kim has(from what I have heard) been a great asset to to disc golf where Schafer was reluctant to deal with us.
As far as pay to play and patrolling.... don't do anything overly stupid, pay your $2 or your $50 for 4 YES 4 great courses that cut down on wait times and vandalism. Disc golf is not a god given right of free(dom).

Hudson Mills and Kensington are true signs of progress and I hope Kim decides to let us have our beloved toboggan run for a little longer than Mr Schafer did.

I've walked the soon to be course several times now. I can see what they are doing to some holes, but it will be interesting to see the layout when she's done. If they can keep vandals off the course by maintaining a presence there, I'll gladly pay to play. Playing the old course just makes me weep thinking of what it use to be.

Yeah but I don't need to even hop in the car to play a great course, so that plus drive time and gas means I'll be staying local. Trying to take some classes and work as much as I can, too. But I do hope Kensington is as good as before, or better. That could be enough to get a pass. Better be longggg...

That's quite the comment from someone who spent thousands of dollars and countless amounts of time and / or driving playing courses of NO comparison to the new Kensington course, or even the old one. Granted I have yet to play the one in your back yard, and probably won't be invited after that comment... :) .

I am more of the mind set that its the wrong way to take this sport right now. If ALL metroparks require a pass now, I'm sure I'll get one as I was never intending to avoid all 4 of them, just Hudson.
