The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
What weights and what discs should I take to the mountains to play.
Well when I play courses in the Tahoe basin I don't throw or bring anything more stable than my Valk and it's a 165g and I would say it flew more like a Starfire or FL (approx). Now there are a few over stable disc I bring, like my 150 class Z Flick or my Gator, but they seldom if ever get used. A few things I should add.
1: I throw low weight discs no matter were I play. My heaviest disc is 171g anyway. So I can't help you on the weight thing.
2: I haven't played Tahoe since I bought my Vulcan, Sword, King, or Bolt. So I can't say how they would fly, but I would think the Vulcan would do fine at that height.
lighter is better, but i've gone back and forth between CO and WI, and what i've found is that if i put a tad more anhyzer than i normally would, it'll fly similar. the thing with playing at higher altitudes is that a disc will act more stable than it would at sea level.
or you can change discs depending on the shot. if you would normally use a valkyrie on a straight shot, an understable disc like a sidewinder should perform similarly at altitude.
just account for the overstability and you'll be fine. have fun! disc golf in the mountains is great.
