The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

So, I started playing DG in March of 2011. About 1 month ago, I played my first Under Par round and have played 2 more since. The last 2 on courses I had never played before. I am wanting to start playing Tourneys sometime in the future, but I don't want to go into it making a "Bad" name for myself by making people think that I am a "Bagger". So, would you recommend I START in the Recreational Division, or go straight to AM??? I don't care if I win or lose to be honest, I am more concerned about building good Relationships with the Local Dg'ers.....

Well if you start out in the Open division then nobody can call you a "Bagger".

Realistically however, I would say to go for an Am division simply because you already have some skills. Don't worry right away about where you place but instead just concentrate on your skills, your game and good course management. Don't get frustrated or angry if and when a bad shot happens. Just keep your head in the game and you will do great.

Lol. Very True Jim. They would just ask me not to come back cause I slow down the rest of the Open players to much.:)

I would look at the competition.  It looks like you have a pretty strong dg scene in your area. That being said, you probably will fit right in playing rec for  starts.   Look at how many people, and who is playing in each division.

I say, if you are in the lead group for the final round in more than one tourny playing rec (or any division) , its time to move up.

Start with Novice or Rec. division and go from there.
I agree with Donny. If you actually win , some douche might call you a bagger out of jealousy, but you'll have 'won' plastic(flies better) in your bag for your next tourney. Of course you will move up after winning. Never play in a division you've already won in until you get to Advanced. Win three or four of those and play Open.
I think there is always some one that calls out "begger" .... and really who cares! I say if you take first maybe time to move up, but if your not taking first then how is it being a begger? But as other said, good idea to start lower and move up, some of the AM players get a little upset if you do not know every rule in the book, but if your not even AM, they tell you the rules in a much nicer manner.

Go Open and try to get into the other players heads......

Just kidding. Play Rec, and forget about people and their notion that someone is bagging...
