New Ace Pool Rules at Coldbrook

So the big $550 ace pool was finally hit at Coldbrook today, twice (so it got split). Since one of the guys that hit one was from out of town, the guy running the doubles "league" was pissed at how much money the non-local dude got. Now he's changing the ace pool to where you have to pay the dollar or two for EVERY week you miss and the current week if you want to be in it. He even said "if you miss 20 weeks, you pay the ace pool for all 20!" I think that policy sucks. So many people were talking about that ace pool each time it wasn't hit and got bigger. It was bringing non-locals to the course and they were paying the 5 bucks plus the 2 for ace pool/ctp just like the rest of us. Is this guy running it making a good call? I know I don't think so.

To me it's just another example of the non-inclusive nature of K-Zoo disc golf I was discussing with Wade Sullivan just last night!

Do you have to pay the extra dollars UP-FRONT? If so that's just ridiculous and I hope you guys will come out East for leagues and forget about Coldbrook.

Other thoughts: I bet they collected 1$'s from many out of towners over time to get to 550$, and I bet some of the locals have taken ace pools from out of their home town. Does an out of towner get to then keep their 1$ if they don't hit an ace? I could see it as fair if that was the case.

Easier solution: Cap to payout of half the pool or 100/200/250$ per ace. That way there's always a payout left for next week too.

I think this is a bad call. Doing things this way will discourage new people from playing. Also, the people who have played in the ace pool several times all got several tries at getting an ace. A person should not be faulted for not being a regular. I have class at nights so i can never go to leagues around me unless class is canceled or something and a policy like this would prevent me from ever participating in the ace pool.

One way to solve it is to never have a carryover. The Ace pool gets distributed each week with the winner of a CTP hole getting the Ace pot if no one aces. Anothe option would be to just distribute half the ace pot each week to the CTP winner so only half the Ace pot gets carried over each week.

I planned out a bunch of tournaments I was going to play this year, I am now excluding all the ones where Kazoo Basket KAces are involved. There I said it, the Kaces are greedy mofos and I think their TD needs an attitude adjustment. What a crybaby. OOOHHH, Im ticked now. He's definitely going to catch some slack for that. I guess Ill just make it priority to smoke all those cats who represent the Kaces. Don't think I cant, I will.

We have a ace pot at a private course maybe 8-10 regulars that play every week, skins and ace pool. Every now and then someone new will show up or out of towners will come play. Once the ace pool got over $200 we capped it at $100 plus what ever you have paid in. So if I payed in 30 times I would win $130. Each time you pay in it is documented, Once the pot grows more the cap can be adjusted, this way we always have a remainder in the pot and the people that pay in the most will get what they paid back plus the pot. My Hero on here, also had a cool way to to tier the ace pot which would work well with larger pots.

I don't think he should just be pissed though because someone hit the big pot. Big pots do draw players to come from out of the immediate area. They boost league turn out, that is the point! People pay in their money for league and make the ace pot bigger, and I'm sure if the TD would have hit it today he would have been thankful for the extra money out of towners added in. What about a local who dosn't always have the money to pay in to the pool but the one week he does he hits the pot? Would the guy still be pissed? Probably. All this new mandatory pay in rule will do is make the new ace pools lower and keep people local and out of towners, from supporting the league. As an out of towner, I wouldn't pay $20 just for one day to be included in the pool for 18 holes.

I agree with you Wade, but you have the wrong culprit. K'aces doesn't run the saturday doubles, a guy named tim does it and he reaps the benefits (get some cash) from what I hear. I don't think he's with club dead and i'm almost positive he's not with k'aces.

Just to clarify for you and everyone-
To avoid Kzoo Basket K'aces is absurd. The Saturday morning doubles league IS NOT run by the Basket K'aces. Larry is the Basket K'aces- and very rarley does Larry make it to Saturday morning doubles.

I don't think that is the best move that could have been made. I can see where people would be irritated, but it is part of the game. When there is an ace pool that gets big, more people start showing up. I remember a few years back when the Thursday night Coldbrook leaugue (which IS hosted by the Basket K'aces) had an ace pool of like $1200. I traveled from the east side to have a crack at that, and it drew out a lot of people from teh wood workd- people from surrounding states.
The best solution would be to cap the ace pool. No one is going to come out and pay for the weeks that they weren't there. That means it applies to me and that is lame. I am local, but rarely make it out Saturday mornings. In fact, I changed my schedule at work so I could start making it out, but I have been way too lazy the last couple of weeks.
I am willing to bet that this new policy will be changed. I can't see Tim sticking to it.

Good to know it's not the club. Sucks that guy has to be that way about the ace pool. I can understand being upset an out of towner took it up, but doubles leagues are not FOR in-towners only unless you have to be a club member or something! I'll be running an open doubles this summer here at B.R.A.T.S with 100% payout.
