Nuke vs. Katana

Some of you might know me as an all discraft guy, which I still am essentially, but I've been trying to expand my horizons and start to throw a some innova drivers here and there in practice rounds. Just pre-ordered a nuke, and will buy a katana next Sunday.

So, question is, what are the differences? Anyone know the speed of the nuke? Glide of either? Total distance? Can't wait to throw either of these babies!

stability: 1.6

Only 1000 made! The initial release of this maximum distance driver is a fundraiser for the 2010 Memorial Championship. The widest rim legally allowed helps to give NUKE a huge distance advantage, and the 1.6 stability rating makes it more useful to a wider range of players. Available in yellow (pictured) and peach, with a few rare white versions. Stock version will be released spring 2010.

[Rescue]

Spent the Day in a field with two Katana's. The Champ 168g flew with a high speed fade and a mild hyzer at the end. Overall a pretty straight flight from start to end. I see a good "tight" fairway driver. The Star 172g version flew straight with a harder hyzer at the end. standard flight diff for the plastics and weight.
As for my ability. I have good form and snap, but marginal power. I throw my Valk and Sidewinder around 300 to 325 feet.

The Katana flips bad for me. Have to start it out with a big hiser just to not get it to go into the ground. I can throw around 500ft. This disc is fast and works best for me with med. power. Snow is on the ground so cant work the roller but i think that is what this disc is going to be best for me.

Does anyone have experience throwing the Pro and R-Pro versions of this disc yet?

Three of us went to The Throw Shop over the weekend. They had a stack of Katana's on the counter along with a test disc to throw. I took it out to hole #1 @ the Ponds and let it rip. Well after the third throw it did not seem like the disc for me. It turned on me with every throw. Now you know me... being a struggling left handed geezer and all. But you ... being a young strapping lefty with alot of years of disc golf left in ya...might have a different take on the Katana. I ended up purchasing a Gateway Assassin. Now...that worked for me. Sorry don't have specs on either the Katana or the Nuke. Go to the websites.

Haven't thrown the Nuke, but I can say the Katana worked very well for me. I throw the Champion first run double stamp type. I believe Champ will not be regular production and is slated for CFR release, but still its a great disc. I think the description from Innova is accurate, it will be a hyzer flip disc for big D throwers 400-500+, probably a much easier disc to throw accurately for someone in the 350 foot range than a Boss.

For me Backhand is still in the devlopement phase and 350 is a tall order, but forehand I throw 400 with relative ease, the Katana flies great for me at that distance nice shallow S ending fairly straight and if a more pronounced line is needed the Katana is very workable.

I think off axis torque will be an issue so If you are someone that has a little extra oat in your throw I think it will turn a little more than you'd like, but all in all its fairly stable. The ones I have been throwing are flat to a slight dome, the more domey versions seem to be a little more stable.

While I haven't thrown the Nuke I got the impression it would be a little more stable than the Katana, perhaps closer to a domey Boss, though I should have some to try out very soon.

To my Forehand it did, I would say its much better than the other attempts at a longer, higher speed control disc, like the Groove or the Monarch. I will have the Nukes on thursday 25 with the fundraiser Nuke Stamp. Should be able to say something about them after that.

Am I understanding you correctly when you say that you ordered a quantity of 25 Nukes? (that just sounds funny and black-marketish...discraft's gone and turned us all into a bunch of terrorism suspects...Bush might have had goons busting down our doors already).

No idea about the Nuke either, but the Katana rocks. Still trying to figure it out. Threw it a little bit yesterday for the first time. I have a Star Katana at 175g. I plan to use it as my roller. It flips over real nice. Was getting close to 500ft with the roll!
