So, how many of you out there really play during the winter? In years past, I would play the occasional round as long as the sun was out, the temp was around 30 to 40 degrees, and the snow was no more than 2" deep. With this criteria I would get in maybe 3 or 4 rounds the entire winter season.
Well, last winter and this winter I have expanded my criteria to the following: no snow more than a foot deep, no ice rink courses (currently Golden Rod is nothing but icy fairways), can tolerate down to 0 degrees, no blizzards or rain, and no penguins.
I've played a little more than half a dozen rounds just in this Month of January. I'm definately hooked on winter golf. Top that ball golfers!
My son played is first round of winter golf last winter at Bandemer, the 9-hole course in Ann Arbor on the north side. Thankfully, there was only a good dusting of snow on the ground, but he loved it! Earlier this month, Conor and I took out a friend, Eric, to Goldenrod (an 18 hole course) in Davison. We only had time for 9 holes, but we all had a lot of fun. It was a partly sunny day with the temp being around 38 degrees. There was betwen 1 and 3 inches of snow on the ground. All in all, conditions were perfect for a quick round. But, I digress. Conor had a blast playing his second round of winter golf. For Eric, this was his very first round of winter golf and only his second time on a course. He had a great time and said that he would do it again. He is even thinking of having a go at one of this year's Ice Bowl tourneys.
So, honestly, how many of you enjoy winter golf and why? And if you have reservations about playing during the winter, and especially in the snow, why? I am very curious about what all of you out there have to say.

All the time...oh wait I'm in FL. Cool text color...that's got to be a first here on dgrus
Okay, I guess I should have clarified about true winter golfing. No offense to you dgers in the lower half of the US, but true winter golf is only played in the northern states (or anywhere that is snows and have average seasonal temps below 40 degrees) with snow and ice. Of course, in behalf of all of us in the northern states, I have to say that you are very blessed to have the weather you do all year long.
The difference is the single v. double digits. If we only had cold, I could deal with that. I had snow upto my hips at one point last week. Most of it was only knee depth. I am 5-10 if that helps.

this pict shows only half way up my knees, only one I could photo myself

2 to 3 rounds per week minimum.... All winter...... I live in California and have my own course.
Lower half of the US???? Has anyone looked at the weather here in Kentucky...we have 6 inches or more on the ground...only reason i didn't get out to play today was that they haven't even attempted to clear off the roads around here...I love playing winter/snow golf but somethings i just won't risk....
anytime unless the wind makes being outside without a disc even unbearable.
I do not mind the cold and can easily gear up against that. The problem is . . . the snow. When I run around in a foot or so of snow then that is when it becomes a real problem. I would be happy to play in 6" of snow.
The snow doesn't get off Utsunomiya City where I live so much.
Nasu where Japan Open is held is in the north of the same prefecture.
A snowy point there.
Discgolf can be done though the chill wind blows.
It is possible to play during winter if it shuts out the cold.
If I weren't such a cheap s.o.b., I'd play all the time. But with the kind of snow we have up in central WI, you'll lose discs for sure. I just can't afford to replace that much plastic. So, with that said, it's been since November that I've played a round. But worry not, friends. I live vicariously through you... Eh, who am I kidding. :(
Seriously, David? I guess that I'm just an ignorant northerner and didn't know it....Are you getting out despite the cold? Any snow down by you?

Charles....you go you crazy winter golfer!
Didn't see this reply before I asked about the snow down there. You know, white discs are taboo in the winter..lol
well color me jealous! you have your own coarse? is this in your backyard, or do you have a course open to the public like some of the resorts that people read about?
