Opinions on winter golfing...

So, how many of you out there really play during the winter? In years past, I would play the occasional round as long as the sun was out, the temp was around 30 to 40 degrees, and the snow was no more than 2" deep. With this criteria I would get in maybe 3 or 4 rounds the entire winter season. 
Well, last winter and this winter I have expanded my criteria to the following: no snow more than a foot deep, no ice rink courses (currently Golden Rod is nothing but icy fairways), can tolerate down to 0 degrees, no blizzards or rain, and no penguins. 
I've played a little more than half a dozen rounds just in this Month of January. I'm definately hooked on winter golf. Top that ball golfers!

    My son played is first round of winter golf last winter at Bandemer,the 9-hole course in Ann Arbor on the north side. Thankfully, there was only a good dusting of snow on the ground, but he loved it! Earlier this month, Conor and I took out a friend, Eric, to Goldenrod (an 18 hole course) in Davison. We only had time for 9 holes, but we all had a lot of fun. It was a partly sunny day with the temp being around 38 degrees. There was betwen 1 and 3 inches of snow on the ground. All in all, conditions were perfect for a quick round. But, I digress. Conor had a blast playing his second round of winter golf. For Eric, this was his very first round of winter golf and only his second time on a course. He had a great time and said that he would do it again. He is even thinking of having a go at one of this year's Ice Bowl tourneys.

    So, honestly, how many of you enjoy winter golf and why? And if you have reservations about playing during the winter, and especially in the snow, why? I am very curious about what all of you out there have to say.

If I weren't such a cheap s.o.b., I'd play all the time. But with the kind of snow we have up in central WI, you'll lose discs for sure. I just can't afford to replace that much plastic. So, with that said, it's been since November that I've played a round. But worry not, friends. I live vicariously through you... Eh, who am I kidding. :(

I've played 38 rounds this year so far. Come play Bandemer wednesdays at 7pm bring your glow discs and led lights. No amount of snow cancels league.

LOL...nice plug Ben! Hey, if I lived closer to Ann Arbor, I would play glow rounds out at Bandemer. I hear so much about it. Not to mention that Bandemer is a really nice little coarse.

We play no matter what the weather or temp. Snow is no big deal, low temps no big deal. As long as I am bundled for the weather, snow pants, few layers on top. Winter, hiking boots nothing has been stopping me from getting in 3 to 4 rounds per week.
Actually today we met up at 7:30 and Teed of at 8:00 when we met up the sun wasn't even up yet, and the temp was only 2 degrees negetive with the windchill. But it warmed up about 9 holes in to our round. And now we got 36 holes planned out for tomorrow.

More power to you, but if it gets below 50 degrees out here in Nor Cal. forget it! Rule of thumb.. If I can't play in shorts, I can't play! Jeez, even at 50 degrees. The plastic is stiff, you can't really feel the disc, and my fingers hurt like heck when I get a good snap. So I'll pass on REAL winter DG..

Dang! I usually wear shorts til the first snow hits the ground. Of course, this is not a big deal to me since I am use to wearing a kilt all year round.

I'm from MN and this is the first winter I started playing winter disc golf. I never really thought of playing in the snow but it seems to work just fine. There are 9 different leagues every week here in MN and 4 tournaments in January. We go with the no wimps no whiners policy, as long as you dress for the weather its fine!
