Painted my Mach III

I decided to paint my old Mach III and decided on a Patriotic theme.

I started off by painting everything with a white primer coat. Then painted the chains with white enamel.

The completed basket in my back yard. I painted the basket with the same color as the top of the chains. I topped it off with a Disc Nation number plate sticker.

Hey Fred, thats really sweet. So i want to do this Bob Marley style with red green and orange. When i go to Home depot to buy the white enamel paint, what do i ask for. Just "white enamel paint and they will know what i am talking about, or is there something more i need to ask for. Sorry, very paint illiterate so i dont want to sound like a jackball at the store.

I used Automotive spray enamel that you can get just about any where. The choice is different places carry different colors. Auto parts stores tend to have more metallics and are a little tougher than regular enamels.

 

Now I should warn you that the paint does leave marks on your discs. In my case it's the blue on the top & basket.

The paint on the chains doesn't leave marks. Also the paint of the chains will chip & wear off over time. I painted mine about 3 weeks ago and practice on it on just about a daily basis. But you have to get right up on the basket to see the wear from the chains banging together when a disc hits. The white is holding up better than the red. The blue paint on top & basket paint is holding up well to discs hitting these areas.

 

I knew that paint chipping on the chains was going to be an issue. I plan on painting the chains every few years. Or if I get tired of it I just spray the basket with paint remover and it will come off fairly easily.

Why couldn't you use a clear sealer,eliminate chipping.Yes/No?

I guess I could have. My first intention was to have it powder coated but my buddy that does that said my paint scheme was too complicated. As far as clear goes it wouldn't help much since the metal is galvanized to prevent rusting. That contributes to the paint not being able to stick as well as if it was on raw steel or iron. 

Plus, I snap my putter hard & straight. I'm throwing discs from up to 100' feet away practicing long runs at the chains and when I hit from that distance it's a hard smack and the paint is not going to hold up to that kind of abuse.

I was thinking of having my Mach 3  Triple plated Chrome. There is a company that will do it here for about  $ 300.00 Complete !!!

Do you live in Nashville? ChromeMasters are there...  Chrome would look intense in the sun. You could use Nickel on the some parts too. Nickel is a warm light golden color and with the bright chrome would besweet.

 

The bad thought is on a bright sunny day the reflections in your eye could mess with your putting.
