The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Hey.. any chance that TODAY, on this 9/12/11.. that this post could rouse ANY of your good friends from New York Freestyle Masters, or Ulti, or DG PROS to PLEASE go down to Memorial Pools for 9/11, and ask a couple of cops on each side of the pool, if it's okay to give American TV.. (and the world!) a view of a couple of people peacefully throwing Frisbee (at a pro-level) over one of the spans?

200 feet per side.. Seems symbolic as a demonstration of Peace and Friendship but can also be symbolic as a flying disc that is under control and going, with great care, from one hand into another hand.. as it should.

But here is why it could also be more deeply symbolic to the world.. (and we don't even know it!..) t is because the organization UNICEF, for the last ten years or so, have been connecting Frisbee play with the PE part of their School in A Box program. Which goes in AFTER A DISASTER, and brings the school up to par for a few weeks with all the materials donated by UNICEF. Millions of foreign children have seen the FRISBEE flying in their life, right after a disaster.

See the link to the articles about how man children have been introduced to the Frisbee as a symbol and tool for peace, friendship and exercise. Contains links to articles about UNICEF and Marines use of Frisbee

Bad idea in such a sacred place.

Yeah plus what if somebody griplocked one and banked it off the inside of the wall and it washed down into the memorial pool and clogged the drain. Not the way to make the paper.

Ok, for those firmly in the "nay" catagory, this thought came to me additionally..

Another universal symbol of peace after a disaster, the dove. Would it be really any different, if an expert dove handler, released a beautiful single white dove, that flew straight across into the hands of another handler?  Back and forth, bridging the span there a few times?

@MonTTy (no griplock would be allowed, man!)

The human animal is not ready for change.

Yes,a dove is usually associated with a peacefull thought/action.Throwing a disc would be looked upon as "game play".Besides the fact you still are upon Hallwowed Ground, dealing with the NYPD[lost members}Never have seen any disc being thrown at Arlington Cemetary>Placement of final resting for many.

Not being a "nay" person, just move the thought to an acceptable piece of land..Central Park or perhaps a demo on one of the Avenues surrounding the old "Towers" area.Probably need a permit, but that would be more possible.

I'm with Ed on this one. Location is the only problem. It just seems unrealistic at this point in time. However, I don't see your intentions as ill at all....what you have described could be a beautiful thing....someday, somewhere..it will happen!
too soon man, too soon.
